What I Can Do For You

Proofreading is the last step in the publishing process before publication takes place.  I give a final look at your text to ensure that it adheres to standards for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting. Changes in text are usually handled by the copy editor or author and I make sure that no text or formatting errors remain after editing is completed.  My job is to perform a quality check for:

  • Accepted spelling, grammar, and punctuation

  • Removal of typos

  • Consistent formatting

  • Missing or repeated words

  • Sentence structure

  • Accurate word usage

My Resources

My primary resources are the Chicago Manual of Style, APA Publication Manual, Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary, and The best punctuation book, period. If you have a specific style sheet or prefer another style, please let me know. I most often use the track changes function in Microsoft Word. I will return two documents to you: your work with the changes made and a copy noted in red so that you can determine to keep or decline the recommendations. I will also include a comments page, if needed.

What I Proofread

In general, if it has words, I can proofread it! My specialties are books, articles, academic papers, blogs, business documents/reports, newsletters, and website content. Please contact me for questions or more information.

My fees are based upon the length and complexity of the project. For work under 10 pages, it is $25 per hour with a one-hour minimum. For large projects, a 50% deposit in advance is required with the balance payable when I return the completed work. Please feel free to contact me so we can discuss pricing of your project.
